A corpus-based study of syntactic complexity of translated and non-translated chairman’s statements

The chairman’s statement of the corporate annual report plays an important role in informing decision-making investors. Thus, it is often targeted at international audience. present study compares syntactic complexity translated statements (Chinese to English) and non-translated ones (English), determine that translation conveying message. results show are significantly simpler subordination as well overall sentence complexity, using fewer verbal phrases T-units than ones. However, have longer length production units, use more coordinate complex nominals their counterparts. findings indicate simplification exists half 14 measures, providing some evidence for universal.
